Re: Piratebox for sale
No its not on gumtree, It seems they don't allow the sale of Raspberry-pi with Edimax wifi stick and SD card with Piratebox loaded? (We believe that this ad is offering something that we do not accept on Gumtree) What micro pc and usb thingy + formatted sd card? Me thinks the name Piratebox scared them, good job you didnt call it Talibanbox or id have MI5 banging my door down Phew.
will try Preloved, I wonder if they will allow me to sell my chattels.

Users connected number?
Hi, first post here:
Just wondering if there is a way to find out how many devices are connected to the pi, and then to post this number on the pirate box index.html page...
Is it possible?

Re: Piratebox for sale
don't blame the project, man. Not being able to sell it on a plattform, which has wrong rules in terms of "freedom" is not this project fault!
... and not being able to sell the hardware with preinstalled piratebox is the simplest Problem. My PayPal account was closed because of the PirateBox project on 24th December 2012! Can you imagine what a shock this kind of message it is in a internet where you are used to use PayPal nearly everywhere?
Don't add any info about PirateBox on your sell offer, and I'm pretty sure you are fine. Or refer to LibraryBox.

Re: Alfa AWUS036NHR v2 - WLAN doesn't show up after successful piratebox start/enable
when it works on you laptop, I assume, that your other hardware does some sort of "internet available" check.
As we can fake the replies for iOS devices only, that seems to fail to other hardware. I need detailed information what your android box and PS3 needs for an answer.

Changing USB drives?
So, I have my Pi(rate) box up with an attached thumb drive and everything seems to be working. I would like to switch out and use a different thumb drive. How do I do this? from the mod guide, it says copy over the 2 folders. So, making sure my new thumb drive has only one partition and is FAT32, and the 2 folders, kareha_uploads and shared, are copied over, it should work?

First image shows right after page loads, looks Ok. Had to change the hostname in the index.html file...
Second and Third show the two different screens I may get. I'm thinking Droopy isn't being configured correctly, or maybe a folder permission issue?
Thanks
Joe

Re: Upload Feature Issues
Hi,
do you access the PirateBox through the IP on the LAN port given by your home-router?
if yes, than that is your issue. The upload box is an iframe, which relies on a correct resolution of the name "pirateBox". As this name isn't known by your homerouter, the browser cant resolve and display the box with the error message.
Is that the situation you encounter?

Re: Changing USB drives?
Hi,
yes, just copy over all the files & folders 1:1 to the new USB drive and then plug it to your PirateBox & start it :)

Re: Changing USB drives?
Well, I tried this. No luck. If I do not have the original USB in the Pi, it does not work. The wireless network will never show up and I can't even SSH into the piratebox through ethernet.

Hi Matthias
I am directly connected to my piratebox's wifi, so the problem can't come that way, at least I think so..

Re: Changing USB drives?
well that sounds like a totally different issue. Maybe a power problem on your PI, which isn't able to initialize the USB ports corretly anymore.
Don't use HDDs directly without an additional power source.

did you enter the IP directly?
if yes, then maybe you have a fixed DNS setting on your device?

High dBi Raspberry pi build
Hi folks,
I am looking to try and build a piratebox that has a good dBi signal strength to try and make it accessible for as large an area in my block of flats as possible. With my wireless router I am able to still receive a signal in the stairwell from the ground floor up to fourth floor (I am on the second) and that's with it positioned on the far side of my flat. I am planning to place a pi running piratebox in the room next to my front door to see if can get it to broadcast further. I was wondering if folk could provide any advice on what the best options might be for maximising my signal strength?
Also wanting the pi to be able to access the internet for my own uses. I assume I can use any compatible dongle and connect to my wireless normally.
My current thinking therefore, in terms of providing piratebox access - I have an old wireless extender router that I no longer need, might it be possible to install custom firmware on it, set it up with no password to access wireless, connect it to my pi via cable, and then set port forwarding for http and https to the pi and let the piratebox software do the rest of the work? Or would I need to add some further steps?
Cheers,
Brydie.

Re: Changing USB drives?
They are both thumb drives, so would the power matter?
