Hi,

TP-LINK TL-WN723N not working properly.
Installed everything and configured hostapd with the custom git of Realtek.
I can see the SSID but the network doesn't assign ip address to clients

Any suggestions?

Mesh on RPI??

hello I was wondering if mesh is operational on RPi?

I would like to extend range to cover a music festival and would like to know what options are available besides using wired ethernet split to multiple waps.

Awesome project by the way!!!

Cheers,
Kurt

Extending range is not equeal to using mesh.

Yes mesh is possible, but not on the same card like on OpenWRT. So you have to disable the Accesspoint or add a 2nd card.

currently toying with a TL-WN822N

"TL-WN822N v2 (ath9k_htc) works on ArchLinuxARM, with powered USB Hub. Successfully tested hostapd/dnsmasq." is what the rpi verified periferals says.

Currently the rpi can see it and has an ip assigned in "ifconfig" but no ssid at the moment.

It is listed in LSUSB and will hopefully get it working later on. :)

Using a USB as HDD ?

Hi guys,

I've just fixed my Raspberry Pi(rateBox) and it works perfectly !
Now I am wondering how could I do to use a USB as HDD for having a larger amount of space to share my files..
The best would be to be able to use the SD card AND the USB to share files..

I am not a pro in scripting, but most of the time I understand the scripts.

Did anyone of you tried to use a USB thumb drive ?
If so, how did you managed to do it ?

Keep me in touch,

Hello,

it is likely an issue with setting the wifi dongle into AP mode (creating a wifi access point).
*Luckily*, at least in theory it is possible to make it work on the RPi!

http://blog.sip2serve.com/post/38010690418/raspberry-pi-access-point-using-rtl8192cu

This is a short guide someone made with a wifi dongle that uses the same RTl8192cu Chipset as your card.
Give it a try and please report back if you were successful.

Unfortunately people often have issues with getting the right wifi dongles that can support AP mode :S

Hello

I've been working with my RPi on doing this with an external USB HD. Have a look at the last post I made on my thread here.

Hope it helps.

How did you get on with the setup. I am planning something similar but using a standard router for WiFi. This should give me much better range than the USB stick I am currently using.

When using an alternative device for the AP I assume you need to some how forward all requests from the AP to the Pi?

Ok thanks Matthias, My router arrived today its a DLink DIR-615 I have flashed it with DDWRT to make it nicer to deal with,

It looks like I need to start from scratch so will be making a go of it tomorrow.

There's a complication to be aware of: USB hard drives (The spinny ones) suck power. The Pi cannot put enough power out to drive one directly. That means you either need to do some soldering work to modify the Pi, or else use a seperate powered USB hub. Additionally, if you're using battery power, you need to make sure your power supply circuit is capable of handling the load - which can be up to two amps for a few seconds during the drive spin-up.

File upload to raspberry PIratebox with android devices

Hello, loving piratebox on my rpi. I have an issue when connecting to the piratebox with an android device though, when I try uploading files using a file manager app it launches the app then immediately goes back to the piratebox index page this is the same if I use numerous 3rd party file managers. If i upload a picture file using a gallery app etc it's fine. I'm not having this problem uploading from any other platform (winblows, debianlaptop, maemo n810 etc) but just with either my droid phone or tablet.
