Re: Fresh Piratebox.. PirateBox Service start fails

Please specify why you can't connect to your Pi (via WiFi?): Do you see the ssid? What does
systemctl status piratebox.service
give you?
Which WiFi dongle do you use? Which chipset does it use? Have you tried just starting hostapd with the config in
/opt/piratebox/conf/hostapd.conf (i think?)
-> what does it say?^^

Re: USB storage, How on current image (8/6/14)

Hi ,
I spent the last few hours trying to use a FAT32 formatted USB Drive to store the shared files. Although I can successfully mount the drive with something like the following in /etc/fstab

UUID=XXXX-XXXX /mnt/usbdrive vfat user,rw, exec,uid=0,gid=0,umask=000 0 0

When I go and try and create a symbolic link I get an 'operation not permitted' error. I can create folders etc on the mounted drive but not a symbolic link. I am no linux guru but I suspect its to do with the fact that its FAT32 formatted. When I get a chance I am going to try it with an ext2/3 formatted drive and I'll report back.

Cheers,
John

Just click [downloads.piratebox.de] to download the torrent file and then open it with your client (I recommend Deluge over utorrent as it has no flaming adverts). Old news.

Shutdown the Pi(rate) Box

Hello, I've set up my Pi(rate) Box and it's working like a charm, I love it ! But now I wanted to transport it and I will have to disconnect it from the power from time to time if I don't want to burn my USB battery to fast. What is the best and easiest way to shutdown the box ? What is the risk if I just pull the usb cord to unpower it ?

Problem with lighttpd after apt-get update

Hi,

Congratulations for the new version!

Before try it i had the idea to update my old PirateBox (Nov2013) and I did a apt-get update/upgrade.

After that lighttpd seems to load 2 times (second time fails) and port 80 is binded on /var/www .

Is any way to stop the first initialization of lighttpd and redirect port 80 to old good /opt/PirateBox/www ?

Thanks

I have the same problem. Raspberry works with old piratebox version
and tplink wn722n dongle. Leaving the usb memory stick connected causes no problems so it is not a power supply issue.

Switching the sd card to one holding version 1.00 piratebox, the raspberry boots but piratebox does not start. I can start Pitatebox manually by connecting a network cable and ssh"ing ointo the box and issuing systemctl piratebox start, but after a reboot it does not work. I have obviously run systemctl enable piratebox. as part of the install procedure.

Hi,
I'm ok with that.

Personally, I prefer deluge and transmission ;)

Hi,
it can be possible, that lighttpd is added back to the normal runlevel again, so it starts for itself during the boot. To remove and stop it, run
 sudo /etc/init.d/lighttpd stop
sudo update-rc.d lighttpd remove

that might help

Hi Peter,
did you run my SED command exactly like I wrote it?
Can you please post your piratebox.conf?

I will check that with my WR722 soon.

Thanks
Matthias

'enable piratebox' doesn't seem to work

So I've encountered a problem with my box on the Pi, it doesn't run piratebox upon reboot. When it reboots, it just goes back to the login screen, and however long I wait, it doesn't enable piratebox. Any ideas or ways of debugging this?

Yep, but use
halt
only, because you don't have sudo, afaik

Okay, first of all: log in
If you didn't login before that, the username:password is root:root
If the login works, some instructions should appear on screen (I'm assuming that you are working in some terminal-like environment, ssh for example)
Now, do what the instructions say
Reboot and, if still not working, run
systemctl status piratebox.service
and post the output.
Additionally, what components are you using, what is the output of
lsusb
ifconfig
? Please post that as well.

Good luck ;-)

Dear members, I am rather new to archlinux and wondered if there is an easy way to change
the wifi channel from 1 to something else.
Could not find it in the Beginners Guide for ArchLinux.

please advice.

Add/change the hostapd.conf in
/opt/piratebox/conf/hostapd.conf
like
channel=2

Let me know if this works for you :-)
