Can not reach 'piratebox.lan'

Hello ... My name is Edson and I live in Brazil.
First of all, I want to say that the new PirateBox is spectacular! Congratulations!
I installed a PirateBox on a Raspberry Pi B following the instructions on the site "[piratebox.cc];.
All occurred apparently without problems(no error messages), except that:
1- The Raspberry PI by itself does not broadcast a wi-fi signal. So I added an external router to the Raspberry and thus had wi-fi signal. After joing the signal, I pointed my browser to "piratebox.lan".
The browser returned "address error" (no exist that server). I changed the address (piratebox.lan) by the IP assigned by the router (in my case "192.168.0.100") and entered at app PirateBox.
Everything worked except the "Upload". The home(index.html)tried to link to 'http://piratebox.lan:8080' and return 'server not found'.

As I am new to "like Linux" OS's, I wonder how to solve this and/or where did I make a mistake! Best Regards, Edson.

I have the same problem. I am using a D-Link Wireless N Nano USB Adapter.
The adapter is working OK, on Raspbian as well as on ArchLinux(PirateBox).
I can not reach 'piratebox.lan'.

That is! There is also a TL-MR3020 connected at the ethernet socket. Without this I can not conect with Raspbian Pi.

This is quite interesting.
Would you mind sharing the how to?
I already know of this which would be nice to implement in your mod.
P.S. in some areas it's illegal to broadcast in certain frequencies so you need to check first.

Seems like your wireless adapter is using a Realtek chipset which is not supported by the default version hostapd. Try to replace it with a version for Realtek devices. Here is a guide how to replace it. [forum.piratebox.cc]

Is there any way to count how many times a file has been downloaded from the Pi?

No recording of when/where or who, just a basic counter to see which files are popular.

ssh problems on RPi

Hello all, I'm having the same problem.

I'm 100% sure that I'm trying to connect to the correct IP as well. I checked the MAC address that I have saved from earlier (when I simply had raspbian on it) and it is registered on 10.0.0.145 on my home network. I try ssh root@10.0.0.145 on my mac (terminal) as well as trying root@10.0.0.145 on windows (Putty) yet they both say that the connection was refused.

This thread, as well as this one from 11 days ago, are the only ones that I can find relating to the problem. Was a new image recently released that could be causing these issues?

Cheers,
interestedparty

It should be noted that I plugged everything (Edimax wifi converter, small USB flash drive, ethernet, and power) directly after installing the piratebox image. I didn't plug it into a monitor or anything. Because it didn't say so in the tutorial, I assumed that you did not have to activate ssh manually. I hope this is the case.

interestedparty: When you use the passwd command that is what activates SSH. Did you do that step?

Sorry ignore yours is the Pi. I don't know if that step is needed for yours.

figure out how to install a tor proxy with IPtables on an arch-linux system.
Try to get this running.

That should be the first step

I assume, you want to get the Pi running with its own Wifi-Adapter, right?

can you login to your Raspberry and post me the result of
lsusb
please?

Thank you in advance,
best regards Matthias

Hi,
double check the gave away names/IP (dhcp-leases) and check which IP your device got via ethernet.

dhcp IS working on the ethernet port in any case.

Hi pirate_daddy,
no, we don't store anything like that.

I totally can understand that feeling of getting an idea of downloads.. but, we don't store anything.

I guess I could modify the code to update a db entry on file download though?

Re: Counting downloads

Yes and no.
the download page is a simple directory list you can not modify in that way.

On LibraryBox we did such a modification. We are using an installed PHP & directory-listing.php script, that is brought into place. That script uses sqlite in the background and simply counts downloads.
That method only messed up special characters. ...

That looks like it may fit the bill nicely. Had no idea about the LibraryBox project!

Thanks.

the url is: librarybox.us

You can enable upload-functionality after installing the LibraryBox again :) B)-
