Silly question, is it still changed after the reboot?

Hello,

After modifying /opt/piratebox/conf/piratebox.conf to set PROBE_INTERFACE="yes", and then rebooting, the file is still modified following the reboot. Is this what you asked?

Nothing has been changed. I wrote the image to the card and booted. Once booted I enabled and started the Piratebox service (using a tv, as LAN doesn't start up) which then made the wifi AP visible and I can access the Http server and up/download as normal but nothing else.

I'll do some more investigation when I get a free moment (I'm fairly competent with Linux).

Hi VantagE,
I would suggest you some primary steps.
first mount the USB Storage or install any automunting tool,
make a Shared folder in your USB drive,
then create a link by the following command,
sudo ln -s /media/usb0/Shared/ /opt/piratebox/www/Shared

Note:- Please check the mount path of your USB drive.

I have my RaspberryPi PirateBox running for quite a while now with a TP-Link TL-WN822N,
didn't even need adjustments - just plugged in and worked!

Alfa AWUS036NHR v2 - WLAN doesn't show up after successful piratebox start/enable

Hello everyone!
I switched from my TP-Link TL-WN822N to the Alfa AWUS036NHR v2 wireless adapter, to increase my range but.
So I formated the sd card and created it again with the image, booted, connected and start/enabled the piratebox successfully.
But after the reboot the wlan doesn't show up.. any ideas how to fix that?

apoc

Hi,
yes. Sorry for the dump question, but I wanted to make sure, that the saved change lasts a reboot.

Mh. Well, if it really works when you login and start in manually, I suggest to increase
PROBE_TIME=10
to 60 seconds.
I'm wondering what else could be the issue.

About the USB harddisk, there is no auto-recognition for usb devices. You have to setup it manually.

Thanks for the feedback. I added it to the compatibility list.

Hello,

In experimenting, I tried setting the probe time to 100, sadly without making any difference. Reading the forum though, it would seem that others also have a similar problem.

Seems like this worked perfectly!
thank you very much!

EDIT:
I have to correct myself.. the hotspot showed up for a few seconds then disappeared.. now its just the same as before.. after plugging in my pi, it does nothing.

Solving the bootup issue

Hi,
I'm trying to summarize the problem solution for the startup-issue here. I'm sorry for those problems.

First option, that works in some cases: [piratebox.cc] (Enabling Device PROBE)
Sometimes it can help to increase the PROBE_TIME in piratebox.conf (If you increased, please report your value back).

As on my box it is working, and I can only check commands on my arch notebook.. so we need to try a few things.

Next steps:
Can you please post the output of
systemctl status piratebox
?

yes, I'm becoming mad because of this issue.

I'm trying to summarize the problem solution now... please post, and follow this thread: [forum.piratebox.cc]

Alright! Thank you very much for the assistance.. I just re-flashed the SD Card using dd instead of the win32disk imager..

after start/enable I issued the systemctl status piratebox:
systemctl status piratebox
* piratebox.service - PirateBox Service
   Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/piratebox.service; enabled)
Active: active (running) since Thu 2014-06-26 02:02:26 MDT; 29s ago

           |-324 /usr/sbin/dnsmasq -x /var/run/piratebox_dnsmasq.pid -C /opt/piratebox/conf/dnsmasq_generated.conf
           |-331 python /opt/piratebox/bin/droopy -H piratebox.lan -d /opt/piratebox/share/Shared -m -c 8080
           `-341 /usr/sbin/lighttpd -f /opt/piratebox/conf/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf

Jun 26 02:02:25 alarmpi piratebox_alt[282]: 0
Jun 26 02:02:26 alarmpi systemd[1]: Started PirateBox Service.

Then I issued a reboot and immediately unplugged the lan cable.
This time the raspberry pi showed immediate activity (the act led, flash drive led and the wireless adapter blinked)

The rest of the configuration was successful, tested the chat, file upload and forum - everything working for now.
But I realized that the usb flash drive seems to unused..
df -h

The date is odd and I couldn't find the uploaded file anywhere..
find / "filename.mkv"

Also do I have the strange feeling that it won't start up, the next few times.. but I will test and report..

greetings apoc.

Hi Apoc,

my personal opinion is, that it makes a difference if you do a warm-start or a cold-start.

Yes, the USB Stick/Drive is not automatically included to Piratebox... we still need a script, an automount config, or a clever howoto to help users to integrate it.

Kareha management

I just finished installing the PirateBox on my new Raspberry Pi and it works great. All components appear to have installed without issue. My question is, how do I manage the Kareha Forum posts? I started the RPI in a coffee shop and in about 20 mins the Forum was full of crap and porn and just kinda went nuts. How do I delete posts that do not belong to me? I am the administrator but I don't see an admin tab/tool/login. I have the "master" password for the board, but where would I use it?

Hi, see [wakaba.c3.cx]

Quote

KarehaAdministration
link references edit close

Kareha has no separate interface for administrative tasks. To delete a post, click the "Manage" link, enter the AdminPassword, and the click the "Del" link next to a post. To delete or PermaSage a thread, click on the "All Threads" link in the thread list, and again click on the "Manage" link. "Delete" and "Permasage" links will appear in the thread list.

To see the IP address of a poster, you currently have to run the dumplog.pl script from a shell. This will hopefully change in the future.

If you want, you can also delete and move threads directly on the server, or even edit the thread HTML files, and then RebuildCaches.

hope that helps

Hi there. I'm not much a fan of Arch and am more familiar with Debian. Has anyone written up a tutorial on getting Pirate Box 1.0 running under Raspbian? Thanks!
