interesting point, but I think it should be possible. FYI technically it is not a SSH session, but a terminal login like in the very old days of computers ;-)
I found this write up for raspbian [gist.github.com] . I think the adjustments in config.txt are the same, but the modification on OS Level aren't. I assume that you do not need to update the kernel, but I do not know if you need to manually add some sort of driver.
This is something we need to investigate and write a howto about, which we can add to the piratebox.cc page... it is a good method to get access to the Pi0(w) in case of an error.
